President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated his call for dialogue to end the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during a meeting with the European Union Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region, Johan Borgstam, at State House, Entebbe.

Museveni said negotiations remain the only viable solution to the longstanding conflict, urging the parties involved to abandon threats and fighting and engage in dialogue.

“The only solution is talk. Stop all these threats and wars and everything else and talk, because it is unfair that the people of Congo are suffering because of this stubbornness to refuse to talk,” Museveni said.

Borgstam commended Museveni’s experience in regional affairs, saying the EU delegation had come to seek his guidance and assessment of the security challenges facing the Great Lakes region. The meeting was also attended by EU Ambassador to Uganda Jan Sadek, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation Eole Sury and Political Adviser Tristan Terryn.
