The Minister of Lands, housing and urban development, Judith Nabakooba, says only working together can to create affordable housing and remove barriers to rent, buy, and build homes that meet the needs of the growing population in the country.

This, she said, on Saturday while presiding over the second sports gala of Uganda Society of Architects at Kyambogo Cricket Oval.

“I want to invite all the professional bodies gathered here today to contribute towards the cause of access to decent and affordable housing to all Ugandans, especially the low-income earners,” Nabakooba said on Saturday.

As a ministry, we are working with different stakeholders on this matter, and very soon, we will host the National Housing Symposium where the Uganda Society of Architects are major stakeholders. We must all work together in finding housing solutions for our growing population that continues to expand every other day.”

“I therefore invite all the professionals here today to join us as we deliberate and search for solutions towards this cause,” she added.

She explained that as the Ministry responsible for the activities of Uganda Society of Architects, they are always looking for different ways of doing things and therefore such a sporting event is good thinking.

“I am happy that you made an effort to attract different professionals and partners in different fields. Under this ministry, we still need to work hard to educate the public about the different roles and responsibilities of creating a harmonious community,” Nabakooba explained.

“For example, under the docket of Urban Development, we need more than just architects to design and plan our housing estates. We need good lawyers, we need environmentalists, we need the sports industry, food and beverages, we all sectors to speak to each other and work together,” she added.

Today’s gala was also meant to jointly raise awareness and funds towards charitable causes.
