Uganda will hold its fourth National Cleaning Day on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with a nationwide sanitation exercise scheduled to run from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has announced.
The exercise will be conducted simultaneously across the country as the government seeks to promote proper waste management, environmental protection and public health.
Nabbanja conveyed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s greetings and commended local governments, security agencies, businesses and other stakeholders for supporting the national sanitation initiative.
Hoima City has been selected as the main national cleaning site in recognition of its role as a host city for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
However, the exercise will extend to all districts, cities, municipalities, town councils, parishes and villages, with local leaders expected to mobilise residents for the nationwide campaign.
The Prime Minister urged local government authorities to ensure that communities have access to cleaning equipment, waste collection services and appropriate disposal facilities.
Roadsides, markets, drainage channels, schools, health facilities, workplaces and other public spaces have been identified as priority areas for the exercise.
Households, institutions and businesses have also been encouraged to adopt responsible waste disposal practices and avoid littering to maintain clean and healthy surroundings.
The government has further announced movement restrictions affecting motor vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians during the designated three-hour period, subject to exemptions for essential services and other authorised categories. The public has been urged to follow official guidance and make the necessary travel arrangements.
Nabbanja emphasised that National Cleaning Day should go beyond the scheduled three hours, calling on Ugandans to make cleanliness and environmental responsibility part of their daily routines.
She urged citizens across the country to participate in the October 31 exercise and sustain the effort to keep their communities clean throughout the month and beyond.
