The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, has cautioned police commanders and other senior officers against unprofessionalism while protecting Ugandans and their property.

Nabbanja, who delivered a lecture to police commanders and senior officers undergoing a one year training at Police Senior Command and Staff College at Bwebajja, said it is unacceptable for a commander or a senior police officer to engage in unprofessional acts or exhibit unprofessional behaviour.

“It is important to be patriotic and professional. When you are patriotic and professional, you become valuable people. Patriotism and professional values help all of us to drive Uganda’s socioeconomic transformation,” Nabbanja said.

Police commanders and senior officers from the ranks of Assistant Superintendent of Police –ASP, to Assistant Commissioner of Police –ACP are undergoing a one year course which is ending soon and some will graduate with a Master’s Degree in Peace and Conflict awarded by Makerere University or Nkumba University.

Directors for Police Human Resource Management (HRM), Brig Gen Jesse Kamunanwire and Police Human Resource Development (HRD) AIGP Moses Kafeero, have invited several people including Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, to address the trainees at Bwebajja.

Justice Byabakama, urged the commanders and senior officers who will complete the course at the time of presidential and parliamentary campaigns to ensure their actions uphold the country’s election integrity.

Maj Gen Alupot Oplot, the commander of National Defence College Uganda- NDC-U urged the police commanders and other senior officers to ensure there is unity among security forces because they are all serving one country.

Nabbanja, urged the officers to mobilize the masses, personnel, and spouses to tap into global free trade and market opportunities, specifically for supplying high-value crops.

Nabbanja also reminded police commanders and other senior officers of the duty they have to keep the country in one piece.

“I want to remind you of your duty which is to protect the country and uphold the rule of law and professional ethics. Wherever you are deployed or any office you are holding, you should remember that whatever you do has been with the law and you have to protect the rule of law,” Nabbanja said.
