The National Identification and Registration Authority -NIRA office in Oyam District has announced the successful renewal of 146,521 National Identification Cards during the recently concluded mass registration and renewal exercise.
The exercise, launched on 5th June 2025, aimed to process 491,600 IDs and complete new registrations within six months.
Speaking on Monday at the NIRA fraternity get‑together party, Moses Meregurwa, the Oyam District Registration Officer, revealed that the team achieved 90 percent renewal coverage and completed about 50 percent of new registrations.
Joseph Omona, the returning officer of Oyam District said NIRA supported the electoral commission by providing credible registers which is a major pillar in the election of a country.
In the get-together party that brought together different stakeholders in the district, Meregurwa was later presented with a gift of a cow by his subordinates as apreciation of his leadership.
Oscar Obong, one of the Registration assistant in Oyam District who was the chairperson organising committee said Meregurwa mentored and showed them to widely utilised the money got from the work done with NIRA.
