The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won two LCV Chairperson seats in the traditionally Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) strongholds of Kwania and Apac districts.

In Kwania District, results declared by Returning Officer Sarah Kezia Birungi show that George Kakoma Akaca, the NRM candidate, won the LCV Chairperson seat with 27,612 votes, defeating UPC’s Patrick Ogwang Obia, who garnered 24,018 votes. NRM also secured 15 out of the 28 District Councillor positions.

These include wins in Inomo Sub-County, where UPC flag bearers Douglas Abura and Akao Carolin Kule emerged winners and Inomo Town Council, where Siddy Okino and Gole Tony were elected as LCV representatives.

Meanwhile, Kwania District Speaker Christopher Agum, together with Alex Opara and Agweng Dorcus, also known as Dyang Lango, won council seats in Abongomola and Akali sub-counties, among others.

In Apac District, the NRM candidate Ambrose Agec Opio won the LCV Chairperson seat with 29,928 votes, representing 63.7 per cent, defeating the incumbent Ikomba Odongo Asante, who polled 17,470 votes or 36.8 per cent.

For district and Apac Municipal Council representative positions, NRM swept the majority of seats, leaving two positions to UPC and three to independent candidates.

In Apac Sub County, NRM candidates Akoli Susan and Ogwang Oscar Edule emerged victorious, defeating the incumbent and District Vice Chairperson Tony Jasper Odongo, a UPC stalwart.

Similarly, in Akokoro Sub-County, NRM candidates Jane Apio and Oscar Opio won their races. Apoi Sub-County council seats were taken by NRM’s Joy Akullu and Ongom Dijong. UPC managed to win only in Teboke Sub County and secured one position in Chegere Sub County, according to results declared on Friday by Richard Onoba, the Apac District Returning Officer.

Commenting on the poor performance of UPC, Isaac Ojok Anok, the Kwania County UPC delegate to the party’s National Assembly and a political scholar, attributed the party’s losses to internal divisions.
