825 elderly persons in Kibaale District have received funds under the government’s Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE), in an exercise that began on March 30, 2026.

According to the District Focal Person for Older Persons, Mackiline Tusiime, payments started in Nyamarunda Sub-county, Nyamarunda Town Council, Mugarama, and Kabasekende.

The exercise continued on Tuesday in Kasimbi, Kyebando, Kayanja, Kibaale Town Council, and Bwamiramira, and concluded on April 1 in Karama, Nyamarwa, and Matale.

Each beneficiary received UGX 75,000 covering January, February, and March, totaling over UGX 62.2 million disbursed across the district. Tusiime also revealed that 178 new beneficiaries have been added and will begin receiving support.

A “proof of life” verification is being conducted alongside payments to confirm eligibility.She added that the government plans to lower the eligibility age from 80 to 65 years in the next financial year, a move expected to expand the program’s reach.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, saying the funds will help meet basic needs.

Kyomukama Mary said she was happy to receive the money and plans to use it to buy personal items, including food such as meat.

Jolly Musiimenta said she had not expected to celebrate Easter due to financial constraints, but with the money received, she now hopes to mark the holiday in a better way.

Tom Byabagambi explained that he intends to use part of the funds to cover medical expenses, noting that he had been unwell and lacked money to seek treatment. URN
