Pader District is seeking 100 million shillings to build a monument in memory of Lt. Gen Paul Lokech.

Lt. Gen Lokech, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, died on August 21, 2021, at his residence in Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District.

Justine Ocen, the LCV Vice Chairperson of Pader, who is the interim chairperson of the event’s organizing committee, says that the monument will have aspects such as a compound, reading area, prayer arena, and other paraphernalia that remind the public about who Lt. Gen Lokech was.

Ocen said that although the district doesn’t have funds, they hope to raise it from the marathons and other activities preceding and during the annual memorials.

Preparations for the second memorial of Lt. Gen Paul Lokech have started, with a marathon scheduled as part of the activities to raise funds scheduled on August 20th, 2023 followed by a memorial prayer on August 21st.

Ocen revealed that the district has already identified a piece of land at Ogwaleng Cell, Lunar Parish, Pader Town Council, where the monument will be established.

The decision to establish a monument in honor of Lokech was arrived at on August 28th, 2022, by the sub-regional council comprising leaders from the eight districts in Acholi, immediately after the first memorial.

Another facility that will be set in honor of Lokech is a memorial hospital estimated to cost 2.967 billion Shillings.
