PPakwach District has tabled a draft budget of about 30 billion shillings for the 2026/2027 financial year. The budget is expected to finance both recurrent and development expenditures, with district leaders retaining the last year’s theme of “full monetisation of the economy through commercial agriculture, industrialisation, expanded services, digital transformation and market access.”
According to the Secretary for Finance, Jessica Okori, the education sector has been allocated the largest chunk of the budget, about 12 billion shillings. Administration follows with about 6 billion, while the health sector will receive approximately 4.6 billion shillings.
The district plans to spend four billion shillings on pensions and gratuity payments, 1.4 billion shillings for road infrastructure, and about 1 billion shillings for production and marketing. Additional funding has been earmarked for water, natural resources, and statutory bodies, among others.
Okori says key priorities in the budget include the timely completion of government projects, the maintenance of social service sectors, and increased community sensitisation on environmental protection.
District leaders who attended the budget presentation include: RDC Stephen Nsubuga, Ass. RDC Fiona Atimango, LC5 Chairperson elect, Shaban Ofoi Kinobe, and the district Chairperson Robert Omito Steen, calling for thorough scrutiny of the budget.
They say the review process is critical to ensure effective service delivery and urged council members to expedite discussions to allow timely approval ahead of the new financial year. URN
