The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has concluded his working visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he held discussions with the country’s top military and political leaders, including President Félix Tshisekedi.
During his visit, Gen Kainerugaba met with senior officials of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), led by his counterpart, Lieutenant General Jules Banza Mwilambwe, to review ongoing joint military operations particularly Operation Shujaa, among other issues of mutual interest.
The two Generals later signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation between their forces in combating terrorism and securing the shared border.
Gen Kainerugaba was later received by President Tshisekedi at the Palais de la Nation (State House) where they discussed broader matters relating to bilateral relations between Uganda and DRC.
Before his departure, Lt Gen Mwilambwe hosted an exclusive dinner in honor of Gen Kainerugaba’s visit. The dinner was attended by senior FARDC commanders and Congolese government officials.
As he concluded his trip, Gen Kainerugaba was seen off at N’djili International Airport by Lt Gen Jules and other high-ranking military and government officials.
This visit marks another milestone in the growing military and diplomatic ties between Kampala and Kinshasa, as both countries intensify efforts to stabilize the volatile eastern DRC and the East African region at large.
