Police say they have progressed in investigations into rising insecurity in Kakumiro District. Albertine South Community Liaison Officer ASP Emmanuel Sempinja said several suspects were arrested and are in police custody.

Speaking during a security meeting held at Kakeeka Playground in Kakumiro Town Council, Sempinja said the police have intensified both vehicle and foot patrols across the district.

He dismissed allegations that a curfew had been imposed, urging residents to continue with their daily activities without fear.

He also appealed to Local Council I chairpersons to register all new people entering their communities, saying the move will help curb crime.

Kakumiro District Police Commander SP David Otabongo urged members of the public to share any information that could help police arrest the remaining suspects. He also asked residents to clear bushy areas around their homes, warning that such places can be used as hideouts by criminals.

Meanwhile, Kakumiro Deputy Resident District Commissioner Emmy Tutamurugaho thanked security agencies for their efforts and asked residents to continue cooperating with police by providing information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.

Residents who attended the meeting also called for increased day and night patrols to improve security in the area. John Kusiima, a resident of Kakumiro Town Council, emphasized the need for regular police patrols.

Another resident, Josephine KyaKuha, asked security agencies to strengthen protection to ensure the safety of people and their property.

The meeting followed a recent attack that left one person dead and three others injured. Unknown persons attacked the family of Geoffrey Muganyizi, also known as Masagazi, leaving four family members seriously injured.

The victims included his wife, Scovia, who died later in the hospital, their two young children, and a housemaid. They were rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, where Scovia, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries.

The latest victims have been identified as Arthur Vian Serunjogi, an employee of MKOPA operating in Kakumiro Town Council, and Shifah Kyaligonza, an elderly resident of Masonde Town Council.
