Police at Kampala Central Police Stations (CPS) have arrested an 18-year-old boy accused of being a collaborator of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). Ransur Komaketch’s alias Kadoga was allegedly found with bullets.
Komaketch’s arrest emanated from the intelligence provided by an informant that the boy was suspiciously in possession of bullets. The 18-year-old has allegedly admitted to being an ADF remnant.
“Kadogo has admitted that he was recruited into the ADF when he was 7 years old, and managed to escape from the ADF camp in Congo and returned to Uganda,” detectives said.
Security forces through Senior Commissioner of Police –SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said the Joint Security Agencies are actively monitoring all spaces for ADF elements and remnants.
Forces said the ADF remnants hiding in various parts of the country pose a danger to Ugandans and visitors to the country. Enanga has cited another example of Farouk Matsiko 27, who has been arrested by joint forces hiding in Kitagwenda district yet he recently escaped from ADF.
Matsiko is currently being held in Kitagwenda police cells and he is said to have first hidden at Kafunda cell, Ibanda Municipality. Security said Matsiko shifted from Ibanda to Kitagwenda after being suspected by locals.
“He was allegedly staying in Ibanda before shifting to Nyanga cell, Mahyoro subcounty in Kitagwenda district. He was working as casual work but the community suspected him of being the wrong person. They alerted the police, and the suspect was arrested,” Kitagwenda police indicates in a report to Naguru police headquarters.
Enanga explained that upon arrest, Matsiko admitted how he was allegedly kidnapped together with five others in 2015 by ADF at River Nyamwamba, in Kasese. “He said he was taken to Kilembe highlands of Mt Rwenzori where they crossed into the DRC, and trained as an Intelligence Officer. The suspect is well versed with areas of Bundibugyo, Bwera, Luwero, and Najjanankumbi and claims he escaped from Califonia ADF Camp and returned to his home village at Kafunda cell, Ibanda district,” Enanga said.
Komaketch and Matsiko’s arrest comes days after the Joint Ant-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT) arrested 25 ADF-linked suspects in Kyankwanzi and Wakiso districts.
The suspects who are yet to appear in courts of law are said to have escaped following the heavy fire exchange between Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and terror groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
