ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, has verified that Mr. Kato John Ssenfuma, a 40-year-old teacher and resident of Mukono, is currently in custody at Kanyanya Territorial Police.
Ssenfuma was apprehended on allegations of attempting to defile a 15-year-old girl who is a student at the same school in Mityana.
On Wednesday, social media circulated alleged WhatsApp conversation screenshots involving Mr. Ssenfuma and discussions of a sexual nature with the juvenile.
According to Owoyesigyire, Ssenfuma’s arrest was prompted by a complaint filed by Ms. Sheilah, a 26-year-old resident of Kyebando Erisa Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, who serves as the guardian of the 15-year-old student.
“Ms. Sheilah reported that the family became aware of Mr. Ssemfuma’s communication with the juvenile through WhatsApp. Consequently, he was invited to their premises on Saturday, January 13, and upon arrival, he was apprehended,” Owoyesigyire explained.
Police have confirmed that a medical examination by their surgeon verified the well-being of the victim, as the intended activity did not occur.
Oweyesigyire added that the case file has been submitted to the office of the Resident State Attorney, and Kanyanya Police has received guidance on the next steps.
The file is pending resubmission for sanctioning, and the suspect will face charges determined by the Prosecution.
