A speeding motor vehicle belonging to Sight Savers at Moroto Regional Referral Hospital on Tuesday evening knocked dead a police constable attached to Kaabong central police station. Constable Christmas Richard met his death at Lochom trading center along Kaabong -Kotido road in Sidok Sub County.

It is alleged that the driver of a land cruiser Reg number UAV 762T, which was heading to Kaabong town crashed into the constable who was riding a police motorcycle Reg. No. UP 8171. Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, says that the constable was on his way back to Sidok police post after dropping off his colleague.

Longole said that the police visited the scene and confirmed that the accident was caused by overspeeding and inconsiderate use of the road by the driver. He revealed that the driver is in police custody while the motorcycle and motor vehicle have been impounded pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles-IOV.

“The body of the deceased was conveyed to Kaabong Hospital mortuary pending postmortem, it is sad that we have lost him in the time we needed more manpower to stabilize the peace in the region,’’ Longole said. Longole warned the general public to be more responsible while using roads in order to prevent accidents as the festive season nears.
