Police investigation tape

Police in Lira City are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a popular comedian and media aide to Gender Minister Betty Amongi, who has been missing since Sunday. The missing person has been identified as Solomon Odyek, popularly known as Macroni Ajoka-a-Lango, a 33-year-old comedian and resident of Ireda Shamba Cell in Lira City East Division.

News of his disappearance emerged on Monday morning when neighbours discovered his house wide open, with the curtain pulled down and no sign of him. Efforts to reach him on his known mobile phone were unsuccessful, as it remained switched off.

The matter was reported to police by Monica Adong, a businesswoman and resident of Anywalonino Cell in Lira City West Division. Confirming the incident, Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said officers immediately visited the scene and found the house in disarray, suggesting a possible struggle.

Police documented the crime scene, recorded statements from the complainant and neighbours, deployed a police sniffer dog, and conducted searches within and around the premises. Okema added that a mobile phone, woofer, laptop, and camera stand were reported missing. However, police recovered two finger rings and two unidentified mobile phones—a smartphone and a Tecno button phone without a battery or SIM cards—from inside the house.

On Monday afternoon, while addressing a public rally in Lira City East Division, Gender Minister Betty Amongi Akena accused Health Minister Dr. Jane Aceng, Lira City Resident City Commissioner Lawrence Egola, and some NRM leaders of being behind the alleged abduction of Ajoka-a-Lango, whom she described as a key member of her campaign team. Amongi claimed she is in possession of audio recordings detailing plans to kidnap Ajoka-a-Lango and other members of her political team.

Efforts to obtain a response from Dr. Jane Aceng were unsuccessful. A member of her campaign team said she was not around and had no knowledge of the allegations. Meanwhile, police have appealed for calm as investigations continue. Authorities say they are particularly tracking the stolen mobile phone and laptop as part of efforts to establish the whereabouts of the missing man and apprehend those responsible.
