Rising insecurity and suspected mob-related violence have left residents of Nkooko Sub-County in fear following the brutal killing of a 14-year-old boy in Kakumiro District. Police have launched investigations into the murder of Erick Eranzi, also known as Peter Iranzi, a resident of Kyeeza Village, who was attacked on the night of March 22, 2026.
According to the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, the teenager was hacked by unknown assailants while on his way to fetch water at around 9:00 p.m. He had been sent by his mother alongside two other children when they were ambushed by a panga-wielding attacker. The other children managed to escape and alerted residents.
When locals, including his father Kolodi, rushed to the scene, the attacker had already fled. The boy was rushed to a nearby health facility but was pronounced dead on arrival. Hakiza condemned the killing and called on the public to cooperate with police by providing information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
He assured residents that efforts are underway to bring those responsible to justice.The victim’s father, Kolodi, has appealed to security agencies to conduct thorough investigations and ensure justice is served.
Local Council One Chairperson, Godfrey Mbazira, expressed concern over the incident, warning of growing insecurity in the area and calling for stronger protection of residents.A resident, Cosmas John, alleged that the family had previously faced accusations linked to suspected witchcraft.
He noted that the matter had earlier been reported to police, but suspects were reportedly released on bond.Meanwhile, Nkooko Sub-County LC3 Chairperson Moses Musinguzi confirmed the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
He urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue. URN
