Kampala Metropolitan Police, in partnership with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Crime Intelligence Units, have carried out a series of coordinated operations targeting criminal activities.

The operations took place in key divisions including Mukono, Nansana, and Kampala Central Police Station (CPS).

On the night of July 21, between 11:00 PM and 3:40 AM, a joint operation in Namuyenge village, Nabuti zone, and Bajjo zone led to the arrest of 24 suspects involved in smoking opium, robbery, and waylaying.

These individuals are currently held at Mukono and Seeta police stations as investigations continue.

Earlier the same day, at 10:00 AM, intelligence-led raids were conducted in partnership with local leaders, focusing on young boys masquerading as bottle collectors, street children, and cleaners who have been terrorizing citizens in areas such as Kiseka, Nakasero, Old Taxi Park, and Kampala Road.

A total of 167 suspects were rounded up and taken to CPS Kampala, where they have been charged and detained.

Another operation was carried out on the night of July 22 in the Nansana policing area, targeting known criminal hotspots. The police arrested 11 suspects and recovered exhibits of opium. The suspects face charges related to possession of narcotics.

SSP P Onyango, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said these joint operations demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to restore safety and security for residents and visitors.

“These coordinated efforts with the UPDF and Crime Intelligence Units are key in cracking down on crime and ensuring that Kampala and surrounding areas remain safe,” SSP Onyango stated.

The police have assured the public of continued vigilance and collaboration with community leaders to curb crime and maintain law and order.
