President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was updated today on the progress of the Bukasa Inland Port development.

During a meeting at State House Entebbe, a delegation from Gauff Engineering, led by Dr. Ulrich Salzer, provided the status report to the President.

Gauff Engineering, established in 1988, has played a pivotal role in enhancing economic and socio-economic infrastructure across Africa and globally.

President Museveni reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the success of the project, expressing gratitude to Gauff for their partnership. He remarked, “Gauff is a friend of Uganda.”

Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister for Works and Transport, highlighted the significance of the port situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, emphasizing its potential to streamline transportation, making it both cost-effective and efficient for goods movement.

“The development of Bukasa inland port is crucial not only for Uganda but also for our neighboring countries,” Gen. Katumba stated.

He underscored the importance of infrastructure development in keeping pace with regional advancements, referencing Tanzania’s Standard Gauge Railway project and its potential impact on cargo movement.

Gauff Consultants has been instrumental in providing consultancy services for the port’s development, including conceptualization, master planning, and initial construction works.

Mr. Emmanuel Winyi Mugamba, Managing Director of Gauff Consultants Uganda Ltd, outlined the port’s features, which include a shipyard, industrial park, storage facilities, and robust transportation connections.

Project Director Mr. Joern Seitz informed the President that the first phase of the project, encompassing conceptualization and road construction, is nearing completion. The focus now shifts to land reclamation and finalizing infrastructure to operationalize the port fully.

The meeting, attended by various government officials including Hon. Persis Namuganza, Dr. Matthias Schauer German Ambassador to Uganda, Attorney General Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, and Mr. Ramathan Ggoobi Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, highlighted the collaborative efforts between Uganda and its partners in driving infrastructure development forward.
