President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni emphasized the vital link between socio-economic transformation and the government’s ability to provide competitive salaries for public servants.
During an address on February 3, he highlighted the necessity of generating revenue through societal transformation.
Speaking at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, President Museveni underscored the role of families in creating jobs and generating income through socio-economic transformation.
He explained that a prosperous society, contributing taxes, allows the government to invest in infrastructure, maintain peace and security, and improve public servant salaries.
Addressing the recent salary adjustments favoring scientists over arts professionals, the President defended the decision, emphasizing the crucial need for engineers and medical doctors in national development.
President Museveni urged the 413 trained secondary school headteachers to uphold the four principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) which are patriotism, Pan Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy and he emphasized the importance of adopting modern approaches to agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT for socio-economic advancement.
Commending Commissioner-Patriotism Hellen Seku for her efforts, President Museveni praised the training programs, acknowledging their positive impact on participants.
First Lady Maama Janet Museveni expressed gratitude for the President’s guidance in education, emphasizing the role of headteachers in instilling patriotism and values in students.
Minister for Presidency Babirye Milly Babalanda recognized the NRM’s core principles as essential for Uganda’s progress and stressed the significance of patriotism in achieving overall success. She raised concerns about unpatriotic public officers misusing resources and emphasized the importance of instilling patriotism to combat such behaviors.
In conclusion, the event marked the culmination of a nationwide training initiative for headteachers, with Brig. Gen. Charles Kisembo commending President Museveni for prioritizing human resource development for Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
