Addressing a security meeting on Sunday in Kakumiro, the premier who is also the district Woman Member of Parliament there urged people to establish neighborhood watch groups in their areas of residence following a series of violent attacks by so far unknown assailants.
Nabbanja’s suggestion follows recent machete attacks that have left several people seriously injured and others dead. On February 27, 2026, unknown assailants attacked the family of Geoffrey Masagazi, injuring four people—his wife, Victoria Namulinde (who died soon after), their two young children, and a housemaid. The victims were rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital, where Namulinde was pronounced dead.
In a separate incident, two more residents were seriously injured on Saturday. The victims were identified as Authur Vianey Sserunjogi, an employee of MK-KOPA in Kakumiro Town Council, and Shifah Kyaligonza, an elderly resident of Masonde.
Addressing residents, Nabbanja urged communities to be vigilant, avoid moving alone at night, and work closely with security agencies to identify suspicious individuals.
She emphasized that forming neighborhood watch groups would strengthen community surveillance and deter criminal elements from targeting vulnerable households. The Prime Minister also appealed to bar owners and operators of public places to be cautious about the individuals they serve, warning that some criminals may be exploiting such venues to plan attacks. She reassured residents that security has been reinforced, with officers deployed from Kampala, Hoima, and within the district to stabilize the situation.
The meeting was attended by national level security officials from Kampala, Hoima, and Kakumiro, as well as the Resident District Commissioner.
Official in Kakumiro thanked Nabbanja for her swift intervention and commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in the district.
The meeting concluded with renewed calls for community cooperation, heightened vigilance, and stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies to curb the rising insecurity.
