At least 22 households in Got Anyonga Village, Rero Parish, Akworo Sub-county in Nebbi District are homeless after a bush wildfire destroyed their homes and property.
The fire broke out on Monday, February 23, at around midday and spread rapidly due to strong winds. Residents say all belongings inside the houses were lost, including cash, food supplies, mattresses, and other household items.
William Odaga, one of the affected residents, says survivors are now sheltering with neighbors, while some families are sleeping outdoors with their children under trees.
Another resident, Esther Onim, says she lost food, kitchen utensils, and money she had kept at home, leaving her family without necessities.
Local Council One Chairperson William Owachgiu has appealed for government support for the affected families and called for investigations to identify the person responsible for starting the fire.
