The family of the Late Charles Okello Macodwogo Engola, a former Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations, is feuding over properties.
Engola, who was killed by his bodyguard on May 2, 2023, left behind several properties including Cattle and more than 70 acres of land in Awangi ‘B’ village in Iceme sub-county, Oyam District.
His five biological children have since been named as administrators of his Estate while six people including his ex-wife Rosie Aboi, and 14 dependents have been listed as beneficiaries.
But the eldest son Sam Engola Junior said the Administrator General denied them Letters of no-objection which would permit them to use their late father’s properties.
The matters came up on Saturday as family members, relatives, friends, and well-wishers gathered at Engola’s home in Awangi ‘B’ to celebrate his life one year after his death. However, Joyce Ayikoru, the Late’s widow did not attend the service.
According to Engola Jr, Ayikoru was against his father’s ex-wife (who bore him a son) benefiting from his estate. He also accused some of their relatives of fuelling conflict in their home.
Engola Junior said that although he is being accused of chasing Joyce from her marital home, the widow left on her own immediately after burial.
General Charles Otema Awany, who was Late Engola’s close friend was shocked to hear that Engola’s wife was not staying at her home and promised to follow up and have the conflict resolved.
Sam Engola, the Late Engola’s brother who is also the Otikokin clan chief said he would also hold a meeting to solve the issues. He informed mourners of a scheduled meeting with the president to discuss why the family has not received a comprehensive report on Engola’s cause of death, and blood compensation.
Earlier, Judith Alyek, the chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Group informed mourners that the government is yet to release a report regarding Okello Engola’s death. She also promised to follow up on the earlier requested posthumous promotion and blood compensation.
Alyek rallied Okello Engola’s children to remain united and carry on their father’s legacy.
Meanwhile, Rosie Aboi, Engola’s ex-wife advised the children to work hard to set up their legacy as their father (Engola) did.
Col. Charles Okello Engola was shot dead by his bodyguard, Wilson Sabiiti on May 2, 2023, at his residence in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb. Sabiiti also ended his life afterwards.
