Residents of Kyamutema village in Nyabikungu Parish, Karugutu Sub-county, Ntoroko District, have expressed concern over the poor state of the about 35 kms Karugutu–Kyamutema road, accusing district leaders of failing to improve the road network.
The residents say that the road which is narrow, full of potholes and slippery has become impassable in this rainy season leaving residents struggling.
According to Benefasi Kule the chairperson of the Kyamutema Road Committee, community members on February 22, 2024 contributed 600,000 shillings intended to purchase fuel to support the district road works especially on their road.
He added that in the 2024/2025 financial year, the district leadership indicated that 200 million shillings had been allocated for the rehabilitation of the Nyabikungu–Kyamutema road, yet the situation on the ground remains unchanged.
Esau Tinambi a resident of Nyabikungu Parish says that the poor road network has made movement difficult and hindered the transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
Godwin Isingoma, a boda boda rider, noted that the bad state of the road has led to an increase in poor mobility and accidents.Landaus Bughayirwe says that they are finding it difficult to transport their agricultural produce to markets due to the bad state of the road.
Simon Bwambale another resident is appealing to the district authorities to urgently intervene and work on the road, saying its poor condition continues to affect livelihoods, access to markets, and essential services in the area.
Richard Kakuru the Ntoroko district Engineer asked the residents to be patient as the road has been included in the 2026/2027 financial year budget and will this time be worked on. URN
