Residents of Kizito and Kalongo zones in Luwero Town Council are grappling with a two-month electricity blackout that has disrupted business activities and daily life, prompting them to petition the district leadership for urgent intervention.
The residents, led by Jalia Nalumansi, say the power outage has persisted despite several complaints to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) offices in Luwero District.
They report that UEDCL officials initially attributed the blackout to a faulty transformer, which was later replaced. However, the new transformer reportedly developed another fault shortly after being installed, plunging the area back into darkness. According to the affected residents, repeated follow-ups to UEDCL have not yielded a lasting solution, leaving households and business operators struggling with losses and disrupted operations.
The prolonged outage has now forced residents to seek the intervention of Luwero District LC V Chairperson Erasto Kibirango, urging him to engage the relevant authorities and expedite restoration of power. When contacted, Kibirango confirmed receipt of the petition and acknowledged the residents’ concerns, saying he would engage the responsible electricity authorities to resolve the matter. URN
