The newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Kasana-Luwero, James Billy Matovu, has pledged to mobilize and invest 50 million towards the construction and improvement of a maternity ward at Kigombe Health Centre.
Matovu committed on Saturday shortly after being installed as the seventh President of the Rotary Club of Kasana-Luwero.
Speaking during the ceremony, Matovu emphasized the importance of strengthening healthcare services, particularly maternal healthcare. He noted that supporting expectant mothers would be among his key priorities during his tenure, adding that he hopes to make a meaningful impact in the community through improved health services.
The chief guest, Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, Buganda Kingdom’s second deputy premier, also the Kingdom Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, used the occasion to call for collective efforts to eradicate poverty.Nsibirwa urged members of the public to invest in initiatives aimed at fighting household poverty, stressing that economic empowerment remains critical to community development.
He further stated that poverty should be condemned by all members of society and dismissed the notion that poverty is hereditary in certain families, noting that individuals can overcome economic challenges through hard work, determination, and strategic investment.
The outgoing President of the Rotary Club of Kasana-Luwero, Hajji Yusuf Kamulegeya, encouraged his successor to continue supporting projects that directly benefit local communities.
Kamulegeya welcomed Matovu’s pledge to support the construction of a maternity ward at Kigombe Health Centre, describing the initiative as both timely and beneficial to residents, especially mothers and children who depend on the facility for healthcare services. URN
