Benon Kahangi, the Rubanda District Production and Marketing Officer is in trouble for alleged forgery and embezzlement of government funds, resulting in his detention at Rubanda Police Station. His arrest on Tuesday evening was ordered by Eric Ssewandigi, the Deputy Rubanda Resident District Commissioner, following Kahangi’s failure to account for 21 million Shillings.

This was part of the 125 million Shillings allocated in the 2021/2022 financial year for various supplies and extension services within the production department. Ssewandigi revealed that investigations have uncovered Kahangi’s use of forged signatures from the internal auditor, store inventory officer, and Sub County extension workers, creating false records of money payments and supply deliveries for extension work.

Kahangi allegedly falsified accountability documents from the system, misrepresenting funds that were never utilized for extension services in the district. Ssewandigi confirmed that legal action will be taken, with the suspect being brought before the court to face appropriate charges.

Kahangi declined to comment on the matter.
