A  35 year old man is admitted at Rwamahwa Heath Centre III in Rukungiri district in critical condition over a failed suicide. It is alleged that Darius Akanyijuka hacking to death two of his family members and injured three others.       

Darius Akanyijuka alias Budori, a mansoner (builder) and a  resident of  Kyanika B  village ,Ndago Parish Nyarushanje sub county violently killed his mother, Harriet Twesigye Harriet aged 54, his two year and six-months-old daughter on Saturday night.   

He is further alleged to have severely injured his wife Addah Akanyijuka and his sister  Bibiana Ayebazibwe. Also injured is his 10-year-old brother, Ignatius Muhereza.

The incident reportedly happened when Bruno Tabaruka, another to the suspect was sleeping in a separate house. Tabaruka reportedly heard Muhereza, Ayebazibwe, and Akanyijuka raising alarms calling for help.  

On rushing there, he found them in the compound bleeding with deep cuts.

The injured said they were surprised to Akanyijuka alias Budori dismembering them while they were asleep.

Tabaruka said on entering the house, he was shocked to their mother and the baby lying dead in a pool of blood. The suspect is believed to have used a machete to commit the heinous crime.     

Francis Mugarura , Kyanika B village LC1 Chairman said the injured victims were rushed to Kisiizi hospital while Akanijuka was taken to Rwamahwa HC3 as they alerted police for help. 

Mugarura says that the suspect had threatened to teach a lesson to his family members after they had refused to allow him to to sell part of the land. 

Elly Maate, police spokesperson for Kigezi region confirms the incident saying that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Rwakahengo HCII for postmortem  as investigations into the matter continue.

The case is registered at Rubabo police station Nyarushanje under file number CRB:170/2023.
