Does anybody still listen to and trust the United States and other Western countries on Russia’s special military operation Ukraine given how they are aiding Israel to continue committing war crimes in Gaza with impunity?
For starters, the U.S. imposed several sanctions, supported by many European countries, to punish Russia for what they regarded as aggression in Ukraine.
However, and shockingly by the way, the same countries have unconditionally supported Israel and condemning efforts to hold it accountable for violating international law in Palestine.
For example, the recent bombing of a hospital in northern Gaza by Israel forces which led to compared to Russia’s strike on a maternity hospital in Mariupol, received no condemnation from the West.
The U.S. government officials, led by President Joe Biden, have been vocal in their condemnation of Russia’s actions in Ukraine, describing the attack on the hospital in Mariupol as an injustice and a disgrace to the global community.
On the other hand, the administration remained muted in its response to Israeli attacks on Gaza, expressing sadness over the explosion at the hospital in Gaza but refraining from assigning blame to Israel – double standards.
Look, Israel has killed and wounded civilians, in tens of thousands, during military operations ranging from wars to protest suppression, and other policies and actions—including what international rights groups call apartheid in Gaza.
With impunity, Israel has occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem for 55 years, on top of the constructing and expanding exclusively Jewish settlements on occupied Palestinian land, as well as implementing ethnic cleansing of Palestinian communities.
All these outrightly violate basic human rights, and yet they are done with support from western nations which claim to be leading advocates of human rights observation. What a contradiction!
The hypocrisy of Western states, reacting swiftly and forcefully to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, but applying human rights law selectively when it comes to their allies must be rebuked.
In fact, time has exonerated Russia as pushing for a genuine cause in the actions in Ukraine and exposed the U.S. as subjective propagandists and hypocrites who exploit situations to their benefit.
The failure of the international community to unite around human rights and universal values with the refusal to confront Israel’s system of apartheid and inaction against Israel’s human rights violations, is glaringly evidence that the West is never objective in upholding human rights as they claim, but rather selfish and exploitative interests.
