The Government of Rwanda has welcomed the signing of a Declaration of Principles between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government and the armed group AFC/M23, marking a key milestone in the quest for peace in eastern DRC.
The agreement, signed in Doha, Qatar, aims to pave the way for a comprehensive peace accord to end the longstanding conflict in the region. This diplomatic breakthrough follows last month’s historic peace agreement between Rwanda and the DRC, signaling renewed hope for stability in the Great Lakes area.
Rwanda praised the mediation efforts led by the State of Qatar, supported by the United States, which complement ongoing African Union, East African Community (EAC), and Southern African Development Community (SADC) initiatives. Kigali emphasized the importance of collective support to maintain momentum toward a final resolution.
The Rwandan government reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable peace and economic growth throughout the Great Lakes region, underscoring its role as a partner in regional stability.
