There is a morning security deployment around the home of the leader of the opposition political party National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine in Magere ahead of his anticipated movement to Kayunga for the final day of campaigns for the district chairperson by-elections.

Polling is scheduled for Thursday December 16.

Bobi Wine is expected in the area to join his party flag bear Harriet Nakwede on her final rally in Kayunga town council.

Police tracks are seen parked near his home with armed security personnel thereon and others standing in isolation. The deployment according to Bobi Wine is intended to block him from travelling to Kayunga.

“This morning, ahead of my planned visit to Kayunga District to campaign for our flag bearer, the police and military deployed overnight around my home in an apparent attempt to block me from leaving. The cowardly regime is on its way out. A matter of time,” Bobi Wine says in a tweet.

The District Resident Commissioner (RDC) Ssempala Kigozi over the weekend threatened to stop Nakwede’s final rally should she invite Bobi Wine.

On Monday Police spokesperson, CP Fred Enanga said “no one has been blocked from campaigning in Kayunga since it is an open process.” Efforts to get a comment to police on the deployment were unsuccessful by publication of this story.

The RDC who said he is not interested in even seeing the shadow of the former legislator, noted that the area security team can’t allow Bobi Wine in Kayunga on the same day with President Yoweri Museveni. Museveni is also expected there on Tuesday to solicit votes for his NRM candidate and Nakwede’s leading rival, Andrew Muwonge whose final rally will be in Kayonza sub-county.

“We actually agreed that Kyagulanyi should come on days that don’t exceed Sunday. We don’t want him even if it is Monday and Tuesday, the president will be moving meeting various categories of people,” Ssempala said on Saturday.

Kayunga LCV seat fell vacant after the death of Ffefeeka Serubogo Muhammad. The former member of National Unity Platform (NUP) was found hanging on a tree.
