At least six people were killed on Sunday evening following a deadly head-on collision between a taxi and a Link Bus Company bus at Kyakatebe in Kassanda District.
According to the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, the taxi, registration number UBQ 154R, was traveling towards Mubende when it attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with the bus, registration number UBE 535H, which was heading in the opposite direction.
The injured victims were rushed to Mityana General Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kiganda Health Center IV mortuary.
SSP Kigozi said that the drivers of both vehicles fled the scene shortly after the accident. Police are appealing to the public for information that could help in identifying and apprehending them.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing and have urged anyone with information to report to the nearest police station.
