‎A primary teacher was killed in an accident involving a speeding car in Soroti on Saturday afternoon.

‎‎The incident occurred near Awoja Primary School along the Soroti-Mbale highway when a vehicle with registration number UA508CC struck John Okello, a Primary three teacher at Awoja Primary School.‎‎‎

Preliminary investigations reveal that Okello was knocked from behind while attempting to turn into the school. Both Okello and the driver of the ill fated vehicle were traveling in the same direction when the driver lost control and collided with Okello as he was branching off to the school where he resided.

‎‎‎Robert Etochu, the LC1 Chairperson of Apuuton village in Awoja parish, expressed his concerns about the dangerous nature of the road, particularly at the Awoja point, which has been the site of numerous accidents over the years. “We have alerted the authorities to install speed humps to help reduce over-speeding, but nothing has been done to date. We continue to lose the lives of our people to speeding vehicles on this road,” Etochu lamented.

‎‎‎‎The driver sustained multiple injuries in the accident and was rushed to a hospital in Soroti City for treatment. ‎ The Soroti traffic police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. URN
