President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the Commander in Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), expressed appreciation to the security forces for their significant role in ensuring the success of the recently concluded Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77+ China summits at Munyonyo Kampala.

Addressing the gallant officers at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, President Museveni emphasized the importance of their contributions to Africa’s public relations and he commended their efforts in securing the safety of all delegates and maintaining a peaceful environment during the hosting of the two prestigious summits.

“If Uganda can’t do it, then who else can do it? It was good that you proved that Uganda can do it. It was therefore important that you did it well, so I want to thank everybody and congratulations,” he acknowledged.

President Museveni stressed the significance of successfully hosting the summits, noting that it was crucial for Africa’s global perception and he pointed out the misrepresentation of Africa outside the continent and commended Uganda for showcasing its strengths, including climate, facilities, water, and its people.

The President attributed the success to the security forces’ adherence to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) security doctrine, which prioritizes patriotism and dedication.

He underscored the importance of diligence in their work, emphasizing the historical exposure of Uganda during the summits.

Acknowledging the role of the UPDF Engineers Brigade in constructing an ultra-modern terminal building at Entebbe International Airport, President Museveni applauded their cost-effective approach.

He also highlighted the need to prioritize salaries for scientists, emphasizing their vital role in the country’s development.

Reassuring the officers, the President pledged to increase their salaries at the appropriate time. The 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Rt.Hon. Rukia Nakadama, and the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, expressed gratitude for the security forces’ exemplary performance during the summits.
