Police in Kiira region have confirmed the arrest of three fishmongers who allegedly killed their colleague only identified as Rogers.

The suspects; Irene Akurut, Moses Kataasa, and Wilber Magero are detained at Jinja Central Police Station on charges of murder.

It is reported that the trio, together with their now-deceased colleague, all residents of Kisiima II island, in the southern division of Jinja city purchased 30 pieces of fish from the Kisiima landing site on Friday afternoon. But Rodgers allegedly sold off four pieces of fish for 10,000 Shillings without the notice of the trio.

This incident sparked rage forcing Kataasa and Magero to mercilessly beat up their colleague. It’s alleged that upon noticing that Rogers was dead, they tied his body to a rope in his house to hoodwink residents that he had committed suicide by hanging.

Kiira Regional Police spokesperson James Mubi says that the detectives inspected the scene of the crime and noticed how the deceased’s feet were lying on the ground, with his hands straightened and eyes shut, raising suspicion that he was killed, then tied with rope as a cover-up for the crime. He says that the suspects were arrested while attempting to flee from the island. He adds that

Mubi adds that the body of the deceased has been taken to Jinja Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem as police intensifies search for his relatives who are not known in the area.
