Three people are hospitalized following a road crash involving a Kakise bus at Opuyo Trading Centre in Soroti City in the early hours of Sunday. The bus, registration number UAS 159P, was travelling from Soroti City to Kampala when it veered off the road and crashed into a bridge at about midnight.

According to eyewitness Isaac Olinga, the accident happened as people gathered nearby to watch a football match. “We were here at night watching a World Cup football game when we saw a group involved in a fight. As the altercation intensified, one of the boys tried to cross the road, only to collide with the Kakise bus,” Olinga said.He explained that the bus driver attempted to avoid knocking down the pedestrian but lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the bridge.

“The accident happened in front of many people here. We may not blame the driver; he was trying to avoid hitting a man who was being chased and attempted to cross the road,” Olinga added.

The driver, identified as Alfred Ekongo, and two other people sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. Police towed the wreckage of the bus to Soroti Central Police Station as investigations into the crash commenced. The cause of the accident is yet to be officially established. URN
