Four people have been injured in a road crash in Luwero District. The incident took place at around 4:00 AM on the Luwero-Kikyusa murram road.
According to Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region police publicist, a white Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBL 426H, carrying police recruits, crashed into a stationary white TATA lorry, registration number UBS 925E, which was loaded with sugarcane and parked on the road in Kabanga village, Kikyusa Town Council.
He attributes the accident to poor visibility caused by the dusty road conditions. The taxi was travelling from the Busoga region to the Kabalye training school in Masindi district. The injured have been identified as police recruits Kevin Okello, 22, and Shaban Moru, 24, both from Jinja, along with Joseph Eric Kirunda, 20, from Bugweri district.
Also injured was the taxi’s conductor, Emmanuel Muzito, 34, a resident of Mbiko Trading Centre. All four victims were transported to Luwero General Hospital for treatment.
Authorities say both drivers of the vehicles fled the scene following the crash. Police are hunting them.
