Police in Busoga East are investigating circumstances under which a toddler was killed and dumped in a village in Mayuge district.

The toddler estimated to be around four years old, was first sighted by a group of boys who had gone to hunt wild game meat in the area. The boys alerted elders who rushed to the scene and later called the police to safeguard the scene from contamination.

The body was found without a tongue, the left hand, private parts and hair, raising suspicion that the child was killed in a ritual sacrifice, possibly from another location and only dumped in the farmland as concealment for the crime committed.

Paul Kakumbi, the owner of the farmland where the body was dumped said that the area is covered with trees, largely attracting habitation of monkeys, which have since deterred them from growing food crops. Besides, it’s used as a hunting ground for residents who enjoy wild game meat.

Kakumbi says that community members have been accessing the farmland for the past three years, but reports of criminality were unheard of save for this suspected ritual murder incident. Similarly, the village chairperson Abdullah Okorimo says that residents in the village and the surrounding areas failed to identify the child.

Meanwhile, the Busoga East police spokesperson Diana Nandawula says that the deceased has been taken to Jinja Hospital for postmortem as detectives intensify the hunt for the perpetrators of this crime. Nandawula also warned the general public against involving themselves in child sacrifice.
