President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday officially launched the Tooro Skilling Hub in Kijwiga Village, Katooke Subcounty, Kyenjojo District, pledging to expand youth enrollment in Presidential Industrial Hubs nationwide.
The newly commissioned facility serves the districts of Kyenjojo, Kabarole, Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, Bunyangabu, and Fort Portal City. It is already offering vocational training in key sectors such as carpentry, welding, tailoring, bakery, hairdressing, and brick-making.

The President was accompanied by the First Lady and the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni. In his remarks, the President emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing youth unemployment through skilling programs targeting those who have missed out on formal education.
He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to expanding these initiatives to reach more youth, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, in a bid to promote self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.

President Museveni announced that the number of trainees per intake at each hub will significantly increase, from the current 240 to 1,500 annually.
The Tooro Skilling Hub is one of 19 industrial training centers established under the Presidential Initiative to provide hands-on vocational education. These hubs are fully equipped to train youth in marketable trades and support import substitution by promoting locally made goods.
