More than 50 Congolese Nationals have crossed into Uganda following fresh tribal clashes in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The clashes between the Lendu and Bagegere tribesmen are said to have broken out on Wednesday morning forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes fearing for their lives.

Those fleeing are mostly women, children, and the elderly from the areas of Joo, Gobu, and Roo in Bunia district, Ituri province.

They reportedly crossed through Lake Albert and landed at Songa Landing Site in Buhuka Parish, Kyangwali sub-county in Kikuube District last evening.

Their arrival brings to 150, the total number of DRC nationals who have crossed into the district in a period of two days.

On Wednesday evening, more than 100 Congolese nationals fleeing fresh tribal clashes in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC crossed into Kikuube district.

They were received by area leaders who later transferred them to the Sebigoro reception centre where they are being screened and registered.

Buhuka LCII Chairperson Reginal Okumu Ngamita said in an interview on Friday morning that the refugees will be transferred to Kyangwali Refugee Settlement after the screening.

Christine Fuambe, one of the refugees who fled to Kikuube from Roo Village in the DRC said in an interview that many people have lost their lives while many others sustained injuries following the renewed tribal clashes describing the situation in the DRC as being tense.

Dheudone Mazembe, another survivor of the deadly tribal clashes from Joo village says the current situation in the DRC is unbearable.

Kikuube District Vice Chairperson Vincent Alpha Opio has called on humanitarian agencies and the Health Ministry to vaccinate the refugees to avoid the spread of communicable diseases.

He too calls for heightened security surveillance along the shores of Lake Albert following the fresh tribal clashes.

According to Opio, some wrong elements could take advantage of the tribal clashes in the DRC to cross into the country and cause havoc.

Since 2018, thousands of Congolese refugees have flocked to Uganda following tribal clashes between the Lendu and Bagegere.
