The Turkish ambassador to Uganda, H.E Mehmet Fatih AK, has called for a ceasefire in Gaza, citing loss of lives, with limited space for aid provision to the hunger stricken communities.
Fatih who was addressing members of the Islamic community to an iftar dinner at the Jinja city’s based Civil service college on Saturday says that, it is the responsibility of all individuals across the world to call for peace in communities faced with oppression.
The dinner was also attended by the Kyabazinga of Busoga HRH Gabula Nadiope IV, Mufti, Sheikh Ramadthan Mubajje, politicians and other diginitories across Busoga sub region.
Israel launched an attack in Gaza strip following the Hamas’ kidnap of Jewish citizens who were attending an annual music festival last year. The war has overtime stretched for months leading to loss of lives for both parties in this war, with Gaza counting the bigger cost in terms of lives lost and property.
Fatih’s call comes at a time when there are ongoing protests across the world, calling upon the Israel authorities to ceasefire and opt for a peace pact, which will end civilian deaths.
Fatih notes that, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is continuously getting worse with increasing numbers of internally displaced persons sobbing for food, shelter and medicines.
He retaliated the commitment by the Turkish government to stand with the civilian populations in Gaza strip, which been overly devastated by the war, whose actual end date ain’t known.

He further expressed fear over the raising levels of intolerance in all it’s forms, saying that such tendencies are the basis of avoidable conflicts across the world.
Fatih has however, hailed the UN general assembly for gazetting 13th, March as an international day against Islamaphobia, saying that such initiatives will promote religious tolerance across board.
Meanwhile, the 1st deputy premier, Rebecca Kadaga, hailed the Turkish government for supporting Ugandan students with scholarships, which has enabled them to attain world class skills in different academic fields within Turkey.
Also, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Ramadthan Mubajje, challenged Muslims to remain emblems of peace and kindness within their communities even after the Ramadthan period.
