Two people have been arrested for allegedly burning a vehicle belonging to Ecoserve Company Limited. The company provides waste management services in the Tilenga area of Buliisa district.

The suspects whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardizing investigations with others still at large are accused of setting ablaze a hazardous waste truck following an accident that killed one person, and critically injured two others in the district. The incident happened on February 16, 2024.

The deceased person was identified as Bejamuka Konka while the injured are Alfred Oyom and Alfred Obegiu, both residents of Nile parish in Ngwedo sub-county in Buliisa district. They were riding on a motorcycle when they got involved in the accident.

It is reported that after the accident, residents set the vehicle ablaze.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says that they have been hunting for the suspects who set the vehicle ablaze. He adds that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday this week from Buliisa district, while others are still on the run.

According to Hakiza, before setting the vehicle ablaze, the suspects stole batteries and other valuables from the truck and took off. He says currently charges of malicious damage have already been preferred against the suspects.
