Uganda has successfully showcased its tourism potential at the Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (MITT), attracting strong interest from tour operators, travel agencies, and prospective visitors eager to explore the “Pearl of Africa.”

The three‑day exhibition in Moscow brought together thousands of travel professionals from around the world.

Uganda’s delegation, led by Ambassador Moses Kizige, promoted the country’s diverse tourism offerings, from wildlife safaris and adventure experiences to cultural tourism.

Exhibitors and embassy staff showcased traditional attire, including the Kanzu, Gomesi, Busuuti, and Karamojong Nakatukok, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into Uganda’s rich cultural heritage.

On the sidelines, Uganda facilitated a Business‑to‑Business engagement connecting 32 Ugandan tour operators with over 102 Russian travel companies, resulting in more than 50 preliminary tour bookings.

“This outcome demonstrates the growing interest of the Russian market in Uganda’s tourism offerings,” the embassy said.

Ambassador Kizige added, “We need to take advantage of the situation here because Russians have very hostile weather, so when it is time for holiday, they really go on holiday.”

Uganda is positioning itself as a top African destination, highlighting attractions such as mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi, wildlife safaris, adventure along the River Nile, and its vibrant cultural diversity.

Tourism remains a major foreign exchange earner for Uganda, and officials see participation in MITT as part of a strategy to tap into emerging markets like Russia and Eastern Europe.
