It is now confirmed that the Uganda U20 women’s football national team will entertain Ghana in the fourth round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

The confirmation follows Ghana’s slim 1-0 win over Zambia at the third round on Saturday, thanks to Evely Badu’s 36th minute goal.

Uganda on Friday progressed to final round following their barren draw with South Africa in the return leg of the third round at Dobsonsville Stadium in South Africa.

The Ugandans had won the first leg 1-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on December 3 courtesy Hadijah Nandago’s only goal. Yesterday’s 0-0 stalemate in South Africa propelled the Coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi’s girls into the fourth round with 1-0 win on aggregate.

Speaking after progressing to the final qualifying round, Coach Khalifa, said he is optimistic that the girls will exhibit the same winning attitude in the next game.

I’m so happy that we have managed to eliminate South Africa. I thank my players for the commitment showed today and making sure we pick a good result. We only hope to keep the same attitude at the next round and achieve our ultimate target of qualifying to the World Cup.

Should Uganda go past Ghana, it will progress to the fifth and final round of the Qualifiers. The girls aim at becoming the country’s first national football team to play in the world Cup finals.

The dates of the fourth round are yet to be released by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
