The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) announced on Tuesday the temporary suspension of Obongi ferry services, effective February 14, citing safety concerns.

“We wish to notify the public and our esteemed users of the Obongi ferry, linking Obongi and Adjumani districts through the Obongi and Sinyanya ferry route, that ferry operations will be suspended until further notice,” the statement highlighted.

UNRA explained that the temporary suspension is a precautionary measure to avert potential safety hazards caused by passengers navigating a flooded section of the access road to the Sinyanya ferry landing, due to rising water levels in the River Nile.

Affected ferry users are advised by UNRA to utilize the Laropi ferry as an alternative during this period.

While acknowledging the current high water levels hinder interventions, UNRA assured the public that their technical teams are closely monitoring the situation and they have plans in place to intervene at the affected section with an appropriate response once the water levels stabilize.
