Uganda People’s Congress -UPC President Jimmy Akena has assured the people of Amolatar district of sanity on the Lake and equitable sharing of natural resources during his reign as president.

Akena who is currently the Lira City member of parliament was at Namasale Town Council in Amolatar district where he addressed a rally as part of the party’s mobilization ahead of 2026 general election. His main rally took place at Amolatar Boma ground later in the day.

While addressing hundreds of supporters gathered at Namasale primary school, Akena who accused the current Government of not investing in the fishing communities promised a government of equity saying natural resources are God- given gifts which should be equally shared among the citizens without any restrictions.

He further explained that equal sharing of natural resources is a UPC dream which he will pursue up to state house provided he has the support of the people.

In their messages, Geoffrey Ocen the Amolatar district chairperson and his colleague David Kennedy Odongo from Alebtong district tasked the people of Amolatar to vote UPC saying the new government will remove all soldiers from the lake thus giving them an opportunity to fish again.

Later in the day, Akena paid his respects by laying a wreath on the grave of Late Brigadier Smith Opon Acak, the Chief of Staff in the Obote II Government who was killed in action at Baropok camp in 1999.

Describing him as “a great person who lost his life tragically” Akena who joined politics at the peak of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) war in Northern Uganda explained that politics being a dirty, risky game requires the brain (which he has) but not guns.

He called upon UPC supporters and leaders to rise up and support the cause.

Kyoga County Member of Parliament Moses Junior Okot Bitek, an FDC cadre, hinted on his plans to cross over to UPC if Akena is serious about his presidency, saying having UPC in power will open doors for more opportunities for Lango.

In September, Akena launched his nationwide mobilization rally in Apac Municipality where he declared his readiness to change Uganda’s leadership with support from Ugandans.
