It is reported that at around 9:20 am, a schoolgirl identified as Tracy Asandi, who was on her way to school, witnessed a fight between the two men and quickly alerted Ismail Rashid Ramadhan, the LC1 Vice Chairman of Anguyira Village.
Police in Yumbe District have in custody a 43-year-old man suspected of hacking a 58-year-old farmer to death following a land dispute in Aria Sub-County.
The suspect has been identified as Taban Mandela Mashil, a deserter from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and a resident of Kena Village in Kerila Parish, Apo Sub-County in Yumbe District.
The deceased has been identified as Kasuku Noah, a resident of Anguyira Village in Konga Parish, Aria Sub-County.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased met his death on Thursday morning after he was allegedly attacked by Mashil during a confrontation linked to a long-standing land dispute.
It is reported that at around 9:20 am, a schoolgirl identified as Tracy Asandi, who was on her way to school, witnessed a fight between the two men and quickly alerted Ismail Rashid Ramadhan, the LC1 Vice Chairman of Anguyira Village.
Ramadhan told Uganda Radio Network that when he rushed to the scene, he found Kasuku lying unconscious and unable to speak.
“We immediately looked for a motorcycle to rush him to the health facility,” Ramadhan said.
However, Kasuku was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Yumbe Health Center IV, where he had been rushed for medical attention.
Asea Collins, the Police spokesperson for the North West Nile region, explained that the deceased sustained severe head injuries after the suspect allegedly attacked him using a hoe.
“There was a land dispute between the suspect and the deceased,” Asea noted. “The deceased sustained head injuries caused by the suspect who used a hoe.”
According to Asea, the suspect immediately fled the crime scene following the incident but was later traced and arrested. He is currently in custody at Yumbe Central Police Station.
“Our enforcement officers traced and subsequently arrested the suspect, who was brought to the police station for questioning,” he said.
According to the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2024, the West Nile sub-region recorded 157 murder cases during the year.
