The Vice President of Uganda, Retired Major Jessica Rose Alupo Epel, has officially picked nomination forms to contest for the Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming NRM party primaries.
The brief ceremony took place at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala. Alupo becomes the first candidate to formally express interest in the 2026–2031 term seat under the NRM ticket.
Addressing journalists after receiving clearance from the Party’s Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, and in the presence of NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, Alupo reaffirmed her intention to reclaim the seat on the NRM ticket. She is currently serving as Katakwi District Woman MP on an independent ticket. “I’m extremely hopeful that the NRM primaries will be free and fair, given the early preparations and transparent process managed by the NRM EC and Secretariat,” Alupo said.
The NRM party on Monday began registering candidates seeking to represent various constituencies in the 2026 parliamentary elections. The Vice President lauded the NRM’s foundational principles—nationalism, pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy—as vital pillars for Uganda’s development.
She said these values continue to shape her service in government and party leadership. She urged aspiring NRM candidates to take advantage of the open, simple, and fast nomination process to declare their intentions.
Alupo also called on the party’s leadership, particularly the Electoral Commission and Secretariat, to remain alert and proactive in resolving any conflicts that may emerge during the campaigns.
She appealed to all candidates and their supporters to adhere strictly to the electoral guidelines, warning against interference with the laws governing the election process.
In the primaries, Alupo will face competition from former Woman MP Violet Akurut Adome, Cecilia Anyakoit, and Angella Anuken.
