A 50-year-old woman is being held by the police in Kisoro district for allegedly killing her 56-year-old husband during a domestic brawl
The suspect, identified as Anosianta Dusabe, a resident of Gachenche village in Kananira Central ward, Mupaka town council, developed a quarrel with her husband, Joram Hafashimana, on January 09 January, 2026, at 10:30 PM.
The quarrel in which their son Richard Iraguha also got involved resulted in a fight.
The duo accused Hafashimana of gifting a piece of land to his daughter-in-law.
Dusabe and Iraguha started assaulting Hafashimana. In the process, Iraguha picked a machete (panga) and totally cut off Hafasimana’s arm. He also cut another and left it hanging, according to Daniel Sikubwabo, an eyewitness.
Sikubwabo says as if that is not enough, Dusabe picked the same Machete, cut Hafashimana in the head, and killed him instantly. Sikubwabo says the deceased is his biological brother, and the act has left him and the whole area in shock.
Elly Maate, police spokesperson for Kigezi region, says police rushed to the scene and arrested Dusabe. Maate says Iraguha is currently on the run.
Maate says the deceased’s body was taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem as investigations into the matter continue. Maate also says Dusabe is currently being held at Kisoro police station.
Maate adds that the deceased and his family members have been battling domestic wrangles.
