Yumbe district

Muslim leaders in Yumbe District have challenged Muslim community to foster unity among themselves and with people of other faiths in order to easily achieve development targets in the district.

The leaders noted that working together and supporting one another in different programmes makes it easier to achieve planned goals and strengthens unity among communities.

They made the call during a planning meeting organised to prepare for a fundraising drive aimed at renovating Aqswa Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Yumbe District. The mosque located in Odravu Sub-County was first constructed in 1923.

Dacha Muslim County Kadhi, Abdu Yiga, reminded people that working together as a team makes it easier to accomplish heavy tasks that would otherwise take much longer if done individually.

The Kadhi encouraged people to always unite and jointly support projects aimed at strengthening religion and promoting development in Yumbe District at large.

“We need to come together to support programmes that promote development in our county and district. To achieve all this, we must work together as the people of Yumbe District,” the Kadhi emphasised.

The Muslim community under Dacha Muslim County is planning to renovate Aqswa Mosque. According to their plan, the roof will be restructured as the doors and windows will be reinstalled after the building renovation.

Nearly 50 million shillings is required to finance the Bill of Quantities (BOQ). This amount will mainly be raised through community contributions from different mosques and zones across the district.

The chairperson of the Construction Committee for the mosque renovation, Swale Okujo, explained that the project will only be successfully completed if people unite and work together.

“The success of this project depends on us. I call upon everyone to work together and support this initiative so that it can be accomplished” Okujo appealed.

Odravu Sub-County Female Councillor, Kubra Bako, said stating that working together and supporting community initiatives increases the chances of success.

The councillor challenged Yumbe people to support one another, work as a team, eliminate hatred and commit themselves to ensuring development in the district.
