FDC presidential candidate Nandala Mafabi

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party presidential candidate, James Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has promised to compensate war claimants in the West Nile once elected..

Over the past years, various war claimant associations in the sub region like the Kony War Victims, the Ombaci Massacre survivors of 1981 and 1991 Ojapi Primary school bomb victims in Maracha district have been demanding for compensation from the government for the lives and property they lost during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) war and other insurgencies in the sub region in vain.

While campaigning in Maracha district on Friday, Mafabi said that the failure by the government to compensate the various war claimants in the sub-region is a question of lack of political will, but not lack of funds.

According to Mafabi, the government collects enough taxes from the citizens, but due to rampant corruption tendencies, the citizens cannot get the services they deserve.

In August this year, members of the Kony War Victims and Ombaci Massacre claimants issued a two-week ultimatum to President Museveni and the government to pay their compensation, which has since not been honoured.

The Members of the West Nile Kony War Victims and Ombaci Massacre survivors are demanding compensation of over 90 and 20 billion shillings, respectively, from the government.

John Mawa, the FDC district chairperson who is also a parliamentary candidate for Maracha East constituency, appealed to the voters to give a chance for the FDC party to fix the economy of the country.

“For us to benefit from the government, we should elect Nandala to get money in your pockets”, Mawa noted.

In Maracha district, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has presented three candidates for the parliamentary race, including Denis Oguzu Lee for Maracha County, John Mawa for Maracha East Constituency, and Lillian Masia for the District Woman MP race.

Nandala, who is currently campaigning for votes in the West Nile, is expected to address a rally in Arua city later today.
